Children’s iPad Magazine

After all the talk today about cursive, children’s education, and technology, I came across this article. Seems really creative and interesting and will probably typify what might end up replacing cursive after all…

On a similar note…Malcolm Gladwell.

http://gigaom.com/2011/03/29/malcolm-gladwell-social-media-still-not-a-big-deal/

I’m sure some of you heard how Malcolm Gladwell likes to know the social networks that we CLING SO CLOSELY to. He thinks they’re not worth much and addressed the issue that protests in Egypt were happening before there were social networks. Congrats, Gladwell, you’re right. Protests have been happening for years.
Gladwell also speaks of how social media can be used against us to dictate and rule our revolutions. Though I have never been part of a Facebook revolution, what do you think?
Do you think Facebook has the ability to start telling us what to do and we will actually listen? Because I don’t.

Where’s the US fight?

I found this article and thought maybe one of you would find it interesting.

http://www.opednews.com/articles/Moving-from-Facebook-Into-by-Dr-Stuart-Jeanne-B-110330-972.html

Click on it, read it, it’s pretty interesting.

But the point that stuck out to me was the obvious attention to the lack of strength behind an American protest. My brother is someone who always claims there is no such thing as a successful protest without violence. I beg to differ, it’s rare, but it requires perseverance. My mind rolls back to examples of Facebook apparently “starting” the appointed protests in Egypt and organized protests all over the world where people will chant and march and scream for days on end in order to get what they want. What do Americans do? We sing a few songs, get it video-taped, stay a few hours, then put it on YouTube?

This is not true every time. Although this article makes some adequate point, compared to the rest of the world, we’ve got it pretty easy. We have our problems, too, but sometimes a protest isn’t worth the fight when we’re really doing okay. So, my opinion is still obviously unclear. But, as Americans, we either don’t have the fight to fill ourselves with determination, the protests going on in this country that are actually persevering are undetected, or Americans only protest when there is something truly important at hand to protest about?
Who knows, do you?

The Big Three?

1. Camera
2. Photo-Editing Software
3. Internet

Jeff Howe discusses these three commodities as far as demand in Crowdsourcing. The one note that he said that really stuck out to me is the idea that the consumer has really become part of the company. By further involving the consumer with the product and giving the control to the person who actually pays for the product, a company can really grow and blossom with knowledge and criticism and critical thinking in order to further the product’s positivity on its consumers.
Cameras for dummies are what we’re using now. Shelling out a couple hundred dollars for a nice camera and learning in an easy way how to use the product has become so special to the consumer as we grasp for a chance to document the world around us. It’s a feed off of emotions, using our constant strain for slowing down time against us but in a positive way.
Photo-Editing Software. It seems to go hand-in-hand with cameras. It’s photography for dummies. If you can’t use the dumbed-down camera in the best possible way, learn to edit the photos you’ve taken in a way that makes it look as if something else is really appearing before a viewer’s eyes.
Internet. The idea of making the consumer part of this business is completely crucial. Without the consumer, there is no internet. Without that constant use and growth, there is no reason for the internet to exist. It would just be this intangible blob of numbers floating above our heads without us knowing what to do about it. But using the ideas dealt out by Jeff Howe, it is obvious to be seen that the business and the consumer cannot be separated by an odd power struggle. They’ve got to mesh into one giant blob, if you will. Using feedback and conversational communication to further a business helps the consumer. Scratch my back, and I’ll scratch yours.
Just some thoughts of mine.
